cant you make like an A frame that is bolted to the top of the body panel where it meets the roof and along the rear tub again on you galvanised rail and make it so it is a solid A with a lump of 80 mm wideflat 3mm sheet with 30 x 30 or 50 x50 boxsection as your A that should provide plenty of strength weldit all together and boltit top and bottom so that al it is doing is holding the frame the weight of the frame is distributed along the rear tub of your land rover on which it is sitting i think it will work in theory

See a ffr this morn with a side mount. Didn't look too bad. What width tires you got? Didn't see a longer mirror on it either

I wouldn't put a spare on the side, simply for clearance on some of the lanes I use .. There are a few places I'd have had to remove the wheel just to get through!

Use a swing-away, you could weld a small mounting plate to the cross-member .. it only needs a single mounting to the bumper/cross-member so shouldn't matter that it's round! Or use Rivnuts and make a separate plate to suit the roundness of the cm and the squareness of the carrier.

cheers paul.
i think i'll start a wanted thread for a reasonably priced swing away as i'm likely to wreck it in some way and not achieve my goal.
then will see what can be done as you say.

If you have access top a welder and metal, or a mate who does, I'd guess it's be reasonably easy to make one up. Maybe not as polished as a shop-bought item, but in the end it's only a heavyweight hinged arm ... ;)

Well if it's really a problem, get a really skinny , and therefore light spare, (it's a spare after all) and stick it on the back door or bonnet with a cover over it.

I'm sure I'm not the only person who searches the forum for answers, as the answer to this one is almost as much fun as the tailgate wheel carrier
and not nearly so much fun as a necro post , has anyone GOT a spare side mount and bracket?

blanchards do the wolf one for a mere £225 ex vat so a cool £270 all in plus delivery of course.

part number ANR5822

some of the other suppliers do it for a lot less

You're absolutely right, a gold mine of info on ere and some freds are years old but the info and ideas are often timeless and priceless, the ability to search and use a forum as a database is the main reason why faceache never killed them off completely, faceache tends, all too often, to be waffle an garbage, we get some of that too but at least you can search, find and bookmark interesting topics and even add to them years down the line.
