Kind of curious as its something I would like to try, would love some low down pulling power!
Its the one on ebay I was looking at.
I dont think bigger is the answer as then lag will be even worse!
Wifes audi is vnt and pulls from almost nothing rpm wise
but a gas flowed head is better than a VNT
I would have to see some figures to believe that bearing in mind its a pressurised engine so whilst you may be able to improve the air flow on a rig I seriously doubt it would make any significant difference in the real world
Which engine do you have? I've heard that for my engine, the TD5, the first thing to do when wanting more power is to install a larger intercooler. Then to chip it. I'd guess a different turbo would be next up after that. Assuming that intake and exhaust are capable of blowing more air through the system.
I thought the 200tdi "refinement" to make the 300 was little things like improving flow through the head, amongst other things...
I phoned a reputable aluminium sport intercooler manufacturer the other day, regarding their uprated intercooler and the VNT turbo... So asked about gas flowing the head, and they seem to think that it doesn't really make a difference... He did mention "blue-printing" the manifolds to the head though, which is something you could do @home, by making sure there is no lip/ledge where the manifolds meet the head.
Just my 5p's worth...
Its a bit of a myth that larger coolers on their own make more power, its extra fuel that makes power and the larger cooler keeps the temps down.
So I would chip it first then go for the cooler, you can get real good power out of the td5, but they still have crap turbo lag, if its an auto be careful as they can only handle so much.
