Does anyone know of a H-K specialist, preferably in the South East but all areas considered! I have an intermittent problem with mine in the P38 - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, sometimes it's loud, sometimes it's quiet. I'm fairly convinced that it's a loose/broken wire somewhere but all my attempts to locate this with a meter have so far failed.

I'm wary of calling a general ICE specialist as I suspect they'll just want to rip it all out and start again from scratch (although that's tempting at the moment!) but I don't really want to lose either the originality or the functionality.

Thanks.

at a guess it is either the head unit of the sat nav interruppting the head unit or the button on the steering whel or the rotary coupling behind it do you get a odd air bag fault?

best thing is to get another harman kardon head unit from a brakers..but they must give the code or the reg number of the car it come out of. as it will be no good with out one or the other..cheeper then fixing your one and it will sort your problem out im soure... if it was a wire it would eather work or not:)

Thanks for all the replies. Yes, I have suspected the steering wheel buttons/rotary coupler, but haven't had a chance to investigate those yet. Does one of the plugs on the rear of the HU feed just those connections? And if so, could I remove it to test?

I suspect the car did originally have a nav system - all the plugs are there at both ends - but it's been removed at some point. Again, maybe something happened in the removal.

A bit more history - this did work when I first had the car, and the only thing I've done myself was to change the fascia panel with all the switches in (above the HU) as it was damaged - presumably when the nav was removed. I slid the radio out without disconnecting at that point and it's never been right since. All the plugs on the back are very definitely in place! That's what made me wonder whether I disturbed or strained something, causing the problem.
