Hi Everyone

I looked into getting genuine LR forward facing puma folding rear seats to add to a hard top.
I've since found out that the wheel boxes in the back are different to a station wagon and so wont fit land rover seats- is this correct, and if so is there a way round this and if so is it easy? / has any one done it?

Thanks
Jack

Just search for "puma seats" you get a stack of threads to read through.

My project is approaching completion. I am having a new chassis so access is good. We cut the tub, put in a footwell and folded some new metal to form seat boxes to fit 2 defender front seats behind the driver and passenger. It's looking amazing I can't wait until its finished!

Thanks Timc1967

Even then there's only one real thread that seems to answer it, so the wheel boxes need to have a fold welded in, is that purely as the seats would be too high otherwise?
The foot well you mention though, would I be fine just having them on the standard flat floor of a normal hard top?
Your conversion sounds great by the way, well done.

Cheers

In my opinion you would be too high on the seat box as the seat bases are taller than the old bench seats, and too low on the floor, plus there isn't much room between the seat boxes. Best thing is to get an old car seat and try it.

The pics of the puma conversions I saw had a cut out then a new ali panel inserted that had the necessary recess. Here it is:

Also a pic of the fabrication I am doing for mine (with the help of an engineer)

The footwell on mine is as low as the Station Wagon footwell, but we managed to give it another 2 inches or so.

Chris at csk landrovers used to sell these, In fact the looks like his old 90.
Don't know if he's still doing them but may be worth contacting.

That's great, thank you, he seems to be doing it still.
Works out at £600 to change the boxes- ouch. Concerned at messing with the original shape as its a nice shiney new landy, but maybe something to sort out down the line for me.
Thanks for you help.
