Guys,
my 2.25 petrol&lpg series 3 starts on lpg at first attempt.
But if i try to start it for the first time a day on petrol it doesn't start.
Even if i leave it on petrol from the night it doesn't start on petrol

I can switch between petrol and lpg
but i can't start on petrol...

any idea?

choke? is that the thing you pull for rich mixture?
i don't have it

it feels like no fuel is going to the engine
it starts at first attempt on lpg
isnt it weird?

That might be part of the problem then, it's straightforward to fit if your carb allows for one

Just attach the cable to it and feed through the dash, my V8 starts with the choke in but it starts faster with it out

my carb is a solex... i don't know if it's suitable...
i was using the throttle instead of choke
some step dancing on the pedal but it didn't work...

while switching from lpg to petrol
i do full throttle for a few seconds and it first stalls and starts again with the movement

might be vapour lock (i had it with lpg)

took me about one minute idling before petrol went through the nozzle after a trip on lpg!

search for vapour lock, worth a try. (you have got a see through inline fuel filter, dont you?-))

thanks phil
I will give it a try,

i am curious what does the S3 do to the petrol i left in the fuel lines at night:)

did some more search and found things about the diaphram of the fuel pump on the net

while checking the pipes carb and lift pump saw that the pump is covered with oil....
i will re check while servicing the oil type air filter, 'cos its a hard work to remove the pump when the filter is on the way...

I think i can remove it but i don't know if there are any tricks to refit...

yes. see that the pump lever (the one that goes into the engine) sits ON the camshaft, not under!
And use a new gasket between pump and engine block, as that's a popular oil leak :D

removing lift pump should take less than 5 minutes. But it takes usually about an hour and a half because of seized bolts (as with everything on a series landy...)

thank you phil.

i dont suspect carb leak because i dont smell any petrol at the engine area
am i right or should i refurb the carb too?
I wish it's not the problem cos' it's a solex and i dont know how to handle it...

i doubt a leak, but i had so much gunk in the carb when i did mine i wasnt surprised it behaved like a woman...

and most often a leaky carb wont let petrol out but air in. so much for the smell...

solex are easy. buy a midget and try and get them set up. they do have two of those...

btw, i was in bulgaria untill 4th of Sept, should have contacted me back then...
How did your spare parts work out? Did they send it to you?

I have found some of the parts here, and postponed some of them
for ex i have found a decent replacement stalk for 6 quid

i didn't know you were so close, i would have contacted you

what exactly was the problem with the stalk?
I had to improvise new contact pads for my indicators as my son played with it once and i couldnt turn on the left indicators anymore...

It was wobbly,
after a bump or a rough ride it was falling down
indicating right turn...

a bit funny...

if you still have the old broken one, you could repair it with epoxy resin. But then, a new one is not that dear in my part of the world.

I suspect part of the plastic "spring" (part of the lever assy) got weak. Coat with armaid in epoxy if you have some, or something similiar. As it's already broken it wont matter.

And not starting on petrol problem could as well be a leaky fuel line, or the fuel pump itself (you did mention that yourself, didnt you?)
