Hi, it is a cable handbrake, and sometimes when I release it it stays stuck on until I start to move then it frees itself?
undo the drum, slide it up the drive shaft and give the innards of the tranny brake a good clean - also check there's no slack in the linkage, if it's properly adjusted you can park a depender up the side of a building and it'll hold

Oh it has no problem holding the vehicle even when on a hill. It just seems as though the whole thing including the cable needs an overhaul. But just wanted to know whether it should self open like on most normal cars when the button its depressed.

take the drum off clean it /wash it out make sure evrythings working ok in there and change the h.brake cable worked for me
