Gutted today as just sold my bronco and I miss her V8 growl. Sadly couldn't afford to run her any more as she only did about 9 miles to the gallon, and being perfectly truthful I didn't get on with the power steering, the lack of gears and sheer wideness.
Looking now to fulfil a dream of Land Rover owning. Not sure what model to get yet as there are a few I like, but knowing me, something old and tatty with character and a bit of power.
Hope to chat with some of you who might be able to share some experience on what to look for when buying a Land Rover... At the moment I just drive a little mark 1 golf gti. Live in rural scotland but work in sussex quite a bit which is where I was born.
I don't mind any mickey taking, my mechanical knowledge is limited but I do love my cars and have never had what my mum calls a "normal" one! Have a fab weekend! Nessie

Small, yes. Fast....um...ok.

Range Rover. Some do have their own character, but as long as theyre looked after, they shouldnt be a problem. If it does break down, there's nowhere comfier to be :)
 
Ha ha, thank u for comments and welcomes. I like uncomfortable vehicles! I am really liking the defenders and also the series II and III as I love the shape of these. Have been looking in the local paper and found a few already as they are very popular with the farmers up here. There are some interesting engine conversions too I have noticed!
Depression re losing my old ford is lifting now, and have put another few notes in the Landy fund this morning! :)
 
If you liek uncomfortable vehicles that much, get a series 1 or 2 or 3. Or get a p38 with fooked suspension. Never had a rougher ride in me life.
 
Well, it was a long quest!!!! I finally have found one. Old with bags of character, a 1973 Series III. She's recently been rebuilt and is in nice condition.

Not a great photo, but it's in fair condition. Solid bulkhead and x member which is all good and a nice base for my project. Engine wise it's perfectly ok, 2.25 petrol which isn't economical but having been used to a 5L it's not too bad! New exhaust (just back box) needed, that's all. May get overdrive... Loving the lack of power steering and driving it around the town is fab. Bit wobbly on the open road, but probably down to the tyres. Getting used to it though and have managed 47 mph from its possible 60...

Plan is to paint it in Gulf racing colours (ironic given lack of speed but I love that pale blue and orange combination)... Never painted a real car before but I have done a dodgem and currently doing up a horse (like a small carousel one but it's coin operated). Found some great info on carriage painting via this site so thank you. Can't wait til holiday time at end of July to get cracking!
