shouldnt give it to yu on a business card - should have a motoring certificate or a wage slip from your employer stating that you are a mechanic.

P...ing over my idear  I have a MOT certificate and a swimming cert some where, I could take my HNC in electrical enginering but again if I can find it and if I took my pay slip in they would ask why I was shopping there. :D:D

I have no qualifications at all, so came up with a novel idea.

Yesterday I went down to the tattooist with the idea of having Halfords tatooed onto my old chap - he suggested that I try and get a B&Q card as he could fit that on....

Ho hum.

that classic oil you use noisy, got the same in mine at mo for the same halfords reason but just rmember it has virtually no zinc in it which push rods engines like.

I added some wynns to try and make up for that untill my next change.

whats the deal with zinc fett? i thought all older engines were usually pushrod so the classic oil would be ideal.

hmmm :(

its funny, I spent alot of time choosin the right oil for the 72. the halfuds oil is made by comma. looked at all the specs and no zinc in it wheras the comma 20w50sonic and europa have loads. if you have a look on the comma site and there specs you will see. they have stopped making the europa 15w50 so I bought about 7 cans lol. some factors still ave old stock of it left but its getting hard to find oils with the zinc in.

btw the comma site system recommends 10w30 semi for out engines- errrr NO!

yeah theres a lot of misgivings about the oils for the rv8

its a new engine, ok, but its the same old tech from the 60s when i9t was originally designed. i'll be sticking with a nice thick lube thanks.

as for halfords/comma - well, i must admit it is cheap considering. other 20w50s ive seen are around double the price, but maybe theyre far superior - i dunno.

i have looked about online and it seems the zinc is there for wear protection, as the pushrod engine have 'flat tappets' where there can be direct metal contact, and the zinc gets in the way and slows down wear.

its looking like the tvr boys are quite interested in the topic, but here wea re talking hi power hi revving situations - me and the plodder are unlikely to cause more wear in the next few years than has already happned in the last 19.

i doubt my camshaft is wearing itself away down there, but its always good to know i suppose.

cheers fett mate :)

looking further, comma sonic is still in production, with about 1100ppm of zddp, whereas the comma classic (halfords) will have about 770ppm, which some people are saying is sufficient for a pushrod motor, some are not.

i think my my plodder it will do, until perhaps i rebuild the her and then we might see valvoline vr1 in there :)

its good sonic can still be bought. I thought the classic had almost none but either way the sonic is better and also cheaper which is nice so maybe swap to that next change :)

shame they have stopped the europa  its was only £10.31 a can too!!

Halfords sit definatly says bussiness card only...
