Half shaft oil seal removal ?

I dont have the direct link to hand but Ashcroft certainly mention removing the half shafts oil seal if you're fitting flanges with screw on caps.

I assume someone here has done just that?

Any feedback on the results?


The reason I ask is that I went to replace the half shafts today and one of the oil seals is clearly stuffed (wear marks on the old half shaft so I reckon its somehow chewed up).

I was going to order a new one and then I remembered reading about removing them and thought "I could do that..."

...maybe.

With the stub axle off you just need a seal extractor or a big screw driver.

It's not so much how to do it, but more if it's a good idea...
