My front wipers work fine on the first setting but if I turn it to the second setting they suddenly stop. Any ideas?

Mine do that too, was going to investigate at some point starting with the stalk. intermittent packed up too not long after I bought it!

Don't forget the wiper relay (well, it's more of a control unit than just a relay) as this can yield similar symptoms - wipers working on one setting but not on others. Mine have been much better since I splashed out on a medium priced Lucas unit.
The wiper motor actually has three brushes inside it, one pair are used for slow operation and the third one comes in to play for high speed. Remember that just because the motor works on slow doesn't mean that it is necessarily 100% blame free. Hopefully will be a simple wiring snag but the motor can be opened up with a bit of care and the brush gear is available as a spare if that is the cause. http://www.lrseries.com/shop/product/listing/10497/19/RTC198-WIPER-MOTOR-BRUSH-ASSY.html

Had same problem, replaced stalk switch - still there, replaced wiper motor - problem solved

Ok will do, I always prefer to fix rather than replace parts, more satisfaction that way.
