is there anywhere to d/load a copy of the rules (obviously ones stating that its not wrong to have a badge on there) print em out ad get them as a badge on the plates, that'd be funny, then attach a magnifying glass so plod can read em!!!

do plod have to be 'qualified' to asses the plates? and which plod would be qualified?

Pre-January 1973
Vehicles first registered before January the first 1973 have the option of using the white on black or silver on black number plates. These are made either from pressed metal or plastic digits riveted on a metal plate. Occasionally an adhesive black vinyl background with white letters is more suitable.

Post- January 1973
Number Plate characters can be either 89mm by 64mm or 79mm by 57mm gaps between characters must be 13mm for the taller characters and 11mm for the shorter. The gap between the two "parts" of the number plate must be 38mm ( 89mm tall characters) and 33mm for the shorter ones. No definitive font is given but styled characters ( for example italics) are forbidden. Note these regulations govern number plates FITTED after Jan 1973 but before September 2001, they do not relate to the year of the car.

Post September 2001
Characters must be 79mm high and 50mm wide with a stroke of 14mm.Inter-character gap is 11mm and the space between the two parts of the registration number is 33mm.The only font allowed is based on the "Charles Wright" font.

ere ya go - oh, and buy the way - its a £1000 fine - not £60

i thought when you bought these style of plates you had to sign a declaration stating off road use only? i got stopped years ago slapped wrist n that was it. the old bill do a good job i wouldn't want there job...that is just so long as they leave me alone:hysterically_laughi

STOP ILLEGAL NUMBER PLATES

cop a look at the gaylander!!!

i think some people do go to the extreme of altering the gaps changing the shape of letters and numbers to make it spell a name ,i can understand getting pulled for that but my plate is an irish plate nothink moved all the right gaps just a tad different back ground and a landrover badge instead of the GB

But... its illegal :D

I wanted to get personalised plates, but every time I looked for them the DVLA site said 'not released and no plans to ever be released'. It stayed like that for ages. In fact I remember a campaign to get that particular range of plates released, but nothing happened.

Then I looked the other day - first time in years - typical.....released and someone else has it :(

Oh well...............it's all really sad anyway ;)

i did a simler thing on dvla site one night a few years ago looking for pers plates i found a plate that spelt me surname perfect R051TER wanted to have it but didnt think i would ever have a car that year or newer so didnt buy it gutted since been sold. i would love to find it again would be great on a l322 if i got one lol:D

There's G17TAC .....but what's the point in having it if it's not right !!!!

I could settle for T1MCT as it has TIM C and MCT (my job) in there - but then I'd need to buy a new car to put it on even if I could get hold of it ;)
