Morning everyone.

In my ever continuing quest to make this 160,000 mile P38 a somewhat presentable example my attention has now turned to my tail lights, as you can see in the attached image there’s some filth settled to the base of the light. It’s not external as I’ve tried wiping it off to no avail.

Are these light disassemble-able or am I better looking for a replacement set?

TIA

Thanks all. The ones I’d seen elsewhere were costing a lot more.

I’ll take the ones in the link! Thanks!

So the lenses and coloured parts are able to be separated? I’d much rather give them a clean than just spend money!
No I don't think so, just pour the water in through the bulb opening and swill it around then leave it for a while. Another swill and pour out. Might need more than one attempt and the water needs to be fairly hot, hand hot not boiling.

My rear tail lights are OK but the clear plastic over the rear number plate bulbs (tucked under the handgrip of the upper half of the tailgate) is almost completely black. I only discovered this when i needed to change one of the bulbs.

I cleaned mine the same way as Keith is suggesting, soak the inside with Fairy liquid and shake them vigorously. I made some thin long strips and wrapped cloth on the end to do the hard bits, then blow with an air gun to get the bits in the edges out. Mine are back to brand new now. Even if you buy from a breaker or flea bay odds are that they will also have crud inside

Same process as cleaning the tail lights, the little weep holes in them get blocked and they get moss or mould growing inside, as with my tail lights my numberplate ones are back to new. A few years back I actually had an MOT fail notice because there was not sufficient illumination to the number plate, rather picky I thought at the time..............

They cannot be separated unfortunately, the one thing to watch is that very often the double ended bolt/screw is very rusty (usually the visible one) the nut usually shears the bolt bit. You can extract the screw in bit and use a self tapper, I bought some spare fixings coz I'm a tad fussy..........
