Hi there,

after some tyre recommendations please as my tyres are sh*te and not really suitable for this weather. its got 225/55R17's and there doesn't seem to be much choice. i'm happy to go budget as it doesn't do a lot of miles but i want either winter, all-season or all-terrain tyres that can fit the 17" wheel and not have any clearance issues, if i could go for a bigger section then happy to do that as the tyres don't really fit the arches to be fair.
any recommendations would be gratefully received.

many thanks in advance

Steve

First off change the tyre to a size that is available in a better range of tyre types.
I'd go with 225/60/17 Yokohama Geolander AT015 which will fit without an issue, and are brilliant in all conditions we're likely to see in the UK, and if they can't cope, you shouldn't be out anyway. ;)

I've just checked national tyres, which is who I use.
Geolander 015 in 225/60/17 are £130.99 each fitted. They do vary in price over the year, and winter is the most expensive time to buy, but they are very good in all conditions, and last 30k miles or so too.

That seems a good price to me. I think I was paying more than that for mid priced tyres 3 years ago.

According to uniroyal, you mustn't use winter tyres all year round, but maybe that's just their tyres. I've used them all year round with no problems but i don't do big miles and don't drive a sports car.
They also say it could impact your insurance because it's a modification.. jeez what will they think of next? How can they penalise you for making your car safer!?

I have 225/65 x17 Geolander GO15 on both my daily use vehicles. Excellent all year round tyre. Fit with no mods and put the speedo spot on !!
Find best price then phone Kwik fit mobile and get them to match it.
Then you can take your wheels off and let them fit tyres so you don't get wheel nuts and wheel nut holes and locking nuts all chewed up with the tyre fitters 'steam hammer !!'

That is a good price, especially fitted as well. I'll check them out. Many many thanks

Hi, are they 60 or 65 section? Nodge recommended 60. Cheers

Apologies for the tyre noob question.
My FL has 225/55/17’s, as I haven’t found Geolander in that size, I’m assuming they don’t do it. So I can’t get a like for like swap. Can I put 225/60/17’s on the same rims? According to the website I posted a link to above 60’s are a 7 inch rim, the 55’s are 6.5 inch.
Cheers,
M.

No Geolander 015 only come in 60% or higher.

You can fit 225/60/17 or 225/65/17 which have been used by several owners including me. They both fit just fine on the standard wheels without any issues.
