I have bought a freelander and reconditioned the engine. I have now got it to run ok, but on it's first drive out I have noticed a griinding noise coming from underneath the vehicle. I'm sure it is transmission related. I have checked the gear&diff oil levels and all is ok. Is there anything that I should be loking at that is a common fault.

Hello jpmase!
might be worth droppin the propshafts off, that would eliminate the UJ's and VCU.If the noise stops. If it dont then you got the diff G/box and IRD left
nice to know you got it going thou
Oh.Its bin stood for a while aint it! have you checked the brakes? Disc, calipers, drums just to make sure they aint binding

Checked all brakes, they're fine. I'll get on with the prop shafts right away. Thanks for your help.

check the tyres for uneven wear, prop bearings are a favourite

dunno what all this talk is about the vcu, never ever changed one, its always the bearings, which you can buy on they're own
