I have a 98 disco with a 300tdi conversion but seems like there is a grinding feeling as I gear up "not down" an seems to smooth out as I accelerate.
Any ideas would be helpful as I am sending in for other work and would like to have an idea so I'm not wasting my time and

I think there might be an issue with the synchromesh/baulk rings wearing out ... Can't recall the details though, sorry.

Just had oil change
Also having hard time starting in mornings
I asked garage if weight of oil makes a difference
I did notice that seem to arise when I have been driving for long distances on highway
And then as I enter city and seem to be going thru the gears in a stop and go situation the feel arises but not in morning when the truck is cold

What weight oil did you use and what type? Is it what's recommended for your local conditions ..

I assume that is the gearbox oil you have changed, not the engine oil?
Are you sure you are using the right oil? Think that would be autotrans fluid, or MTF, not gear oil.
Cold starting is likely to be an issue in Canadian temperatures, where are you, and how cold is it getting?
Battery condition and size, glow plugs, and connections would be my first ports of call.

It's a manual? Can you feel the grinding through the gear lever or the clutch pedal?

I am going in tomorrow to discuss oil weight.
Yes gear box oil was changed
The grinding feel is when pressing on gas not in clutch
the temp When morning hard start issue started was -25cel
But tried block heater and no success.
Drove down to Vancouver for weekend and was 5deg cel there it started but felt like a hard start.
I have going into shop tomorrow and am giving her up for rest of winter. Will have shop go thru and ensure all issues a delt with.
I will post after on out come on all issues
Thanks for feed back
