Sound like you are the low cost alternative, keeping going as long as possible with out an expensive replacement

I heat my boat up to about 35 degrees in the saloon in the winter, but because it is a very small space, and very well insulated, that uses very little diesel.
Heating a small house or flat always burns much less energy than heating a big one.
And the same applies to cars. The simplest way to have a greener car is to get a smaller one, whatever fuel it uses.
