Grease nipple ?

There isn't any way to be sure without taking them out and trying the thread in a nut or measuring. I once replaced a UJ on a Shogun propshaft. The replacement UJ was threaded for and supplied with a 1/4" UNF grease nipple.

Be aware that some of the cheap nipples are useless. The same goes for the grease gun nozzles. More grease seems to end up flowing out of the connection than into the UJ.

I replaced both with better ones in packets marked Made in Germany from a hydraulic hose supplier. They work a lot better.

I also find that some of the propshaft yokes can be difficult to get the nozzle on at the proper angle. Jacking one wheel up and rotating the prop can make it easier. I fitted long nipples to the Shogun shaft which made greasing a lot easier. I am not sure if it would work on a Series prop as the holes are drilled at a different angle.

Its ok i've ordered both metric and imperial just incase, its to grease the rear U/J as the yoke is to small to accept my grease gun end and its one of those fancy locking ones so don't want to damage it by grinding it :(

Are you trying to fit the nipples to the UJs before installing the shaft? It's worth greasing the UJs on the bench before fitting the shaft.

My grease gun came with a steel pipe between the gun and the nozzle. I also replaced that with a flexible rubber hose. That made it a lot easier working under the vehicle.

I also bought a one handed grease gun so that I can hold the nozzle in place with the other free hand. They can easily detach from the nipples.

No it just i'm trying to give the landy a grease up before the Billing trip next month, i struggled last time but forgot to get extended nipples hence why i want to fit it now :)

If the nozzel and the nipple are the same size the pressure as the grease flows through the sprung ball tightens the grip and the nozzel won't come off.
If it falls off easily or the grease squibs out the nozzel's grippers (rather than into the nipple) you have a size mismatch ...
No the yoke is stopping the grease gun pipe end to attatch to the nipple, i can get on all the other propshaft nipples and balljoint nipples but its just this one where the yoke is quite close so an extended nipple should sort it :)

The extended nipples are quite good, make life easier, but still have to turn prop for easier access.

I couldn't find anything about nozzle sizes mentioned on any of the supplier's online information. Do you know of anything that you could link to? I find that some of the cheaper nipples that appear the same size don't fit the nozzle as well.

Is it the transfer box end of the front prop by any chance? That one is the problem on mine. I find that I have to push the fitting on, then turn the prop so the nipple is pointing upwards with the pipe attached. That is the only way to get it to stay attached when pumping the grease. One of these days I am going to grind a clearance notch in the yoke using a die grinder. I have seen others supplied with a pre-made notch in the casting.

There are several different sizes but typically there are the 1/4" and the 8mm (metric). The heads are/should be SAE J534, Ø is 6.6 (+/- 0.3) mm / 0.26" (+/-0.012").
Here is a catalogue .... fill yer boots https://issuu.com/glhuyett/docs/gl-huyett-grease-fitting-catalog
I guess some are just better made than others ...
