Bought a 2001 Y Reg TD5 XS last night.
94,000 miles MOT til May 2011. 5 seat ( Although the V5 says 7 )
A few dings on the bodywork but looks ok from the outside .
The only problem is the interior . - The last owner used it as a farm vehicle.
It needs an industrial steam clean on the seats and the previous owner's dog has eaten the trim in the boot. - All of it. it is down to metal in places.
I am thinking that it might be easier to try and get an interior from somewhere.
I could put the 6th and 7th seats in at the same time.

I was made an offer I couldn't refuse so bought it quickly before he changed his mind., . :)

Any pointers on what I need to look for problem wise would be greatly appreciated.

there might be problems coming soon mate, but tbh you might aswell wait for them to happen!

they do have common faults, but if yours aint going wrong just yet dont interfere.

start with changing both oil filters, air filter, box gearboxes and axle oils. check wheel bearings and brake disks, and inspect chassis for rust. check all suspension bushes and away you go.

then wait for problems! :D

oh yeah, i would remove the whole interior, jetwash out the car and every piece of salvageable interior, work out what else you need, get from breakers, jetwash that, wait for it all to dry and stick it all back in.

nice clean car then. theres no point trying to clean it with the interior in the car...

cheers :)

You may find that the extra 2 seats have parted company with the landy to create extra space in the boot at some point.

As has been said, carry out a full service and change all the fluids as well. It sounds like this thing has no service history at all.

Then get yourself a Hawkeye and plug it in to see how it's running. I thought mine was running OK until things were pointed out to me. I ended up needing a new MAF sensor anyway. I then got a Hawkeye and plugged it in to confirm everything was running as it should.

I have managed to negotiate a good price for forum buys for the hawkeye. I make no profit in the sale at all - buyers deal direct with Bearmach. PM me for details. Hawkeye is an essential piece of kit for D2 ownership.

Another tip - when you turn the key, check that ALL the lights come on, including and especially the ABS, Traction Control and Hill Decent.

If it's been used on a farm, get the underneath CLEAN, check it over and get it waxoiled.

Thanks for the advice guys.
I bought the car from a friend so am okay with the history but will sort a service anyway.
Sorry to sound a bit dim , but what's the deal with the EGR ?
Thanks in advance.
