Got my new TD5 - couple of questions...

How do you go about finding a specialist though? Do I drop a note on the windscreen of any Discos I see?? lol! Or do any of you guys know a specialist in the South/West Wales area?

If the garage I bought it from can't fix the items themselves, then hopefully they should be able to sort something out - Sale of Goods Act etc...

That's right

they have to, i think by law give a 3 month warranty, the first month is a fix any problem type of coverage and the other two will be major parts only. By law you are protected.

your best bet is to use search engines as anyone LR specialist worth anything will be on the web somewhere

There is always going to be experiences like pastmasters unfortunately, but we have people come to us with the story the other way round, for example

a lady had a car that failed it's mot on emissions so her trusted garage replaced the cat and the lambda sensor and it was still the same, they gave her some dodgy explanation about how the probe had to be reset by diag computer so she came to us. Sure enough the emissions were all over the place but the problem was nothing to do with cat or probes. She had an intake pipe that was loose, problem solved 25 quid charge, the work at her previous garage was just under £900 which she never saw again!

best regards

Can it be spam if he's not actually promoting his own garage tho?
And he's saying indys are good as long as you get the right one, so :p ;)

Anyway, I'm new here, so probs missed something between you two? :fencing:

I think i missed it too lol

i guess some people only see what they want to see if they're looking for an argument

True, they're not all bad, but I haven't had much luck near to London. I've been helped out in a big way once or twice (over many years) by far-flung country dealers who care about what they're doing (angry farmer with pitchfork is a strong incentive) but here in London where their only concern is selling Range Rover Sport models to rich Russians and the turnover on mechanics is high, they seem to have no idea about anything except the current model, and even then...

Concensus on this forum seems to be anti-dealer.

Google's found me a fairly local specialist:
Lewis 4x4 (Independent Land Rover Specialists) Ltd

Servicing - Discovery TD5

12,000 miles/12 months Typical Price £ 143
24,000 miles/24 months Typical Price £ 328
36,000 miles/36 months Typical Price £ 223
48,000 miles/48 months Typical Price £ 311

All prices listed here are approximate as servicing requirements vary from vehicle to vehicle, but are offered as a guide.
All amounts are exclusive of VAT.

How does the servicing work, are they different services up to 48k then they start again with the 12k service? I don't have the flipping service book at the moment - Garage have "misplaced" it, though I did have a look through it when I first bought the car, so I know they have it. But I don't know which of the different types of service it's had!

I've also PM'd clutchdust on here as a search showed he does LR stuff and he's not too far away.

Cheers for all your help :)

I love the way the 24 and the 48k services are different prices, they're both the same!

Stratstone wanted £260 for an 84k. Thats the same as a 12k

Oops, I'm such a muppet  - found the service book under one of the seats... :D

So far it's had:
13,679 - Service A - LR main dealer
25,119 - Service B & brake fluid - LR main dealer
30,135 - oil service - LR main dealer
35,705 - Service A & coolant change - LR main dealer
48,238 - Service B - MDP Landrovers Ltd - independent specialists
60,098 - Service A - LR main dealer
72,814 - Service B - local garage

It's also had two recalls - A169 (F/pipe) and A148B

Is there anywhere online I can check what these A/B/C services entail and also what recalls may be applicable to my car?

Edit: Just found some sites for searching recalls:
VOSA - Search Results
Car Recalls : car recall search results - The AA
