I would, but 1st of all you have to tell us what kind of GPS you want, what you want it to do, what size, mapping or not, software, downloadable routes etc etc etc 
You cant go wrong with a Garmin GPS60 for handheld basic GPS. Better reception than the original Etrex and not much more. The new ones look good and will be compatible with new, future sattelites but these have not been launched yet and who knows when the system will go live. Garmin have just used the right chipset to be futureproof, but I wouldn't buy one of these just on that basis.
I have used a GPS62 CX? I think it was called when in Africa. Can use T4A on the microSD card and its full colour mapping. very good unit indeed.
I use a GPS 10 BT unit which links to my laptop, cheaper than a handheld and easier to connect etc. but I cant take it out anywhere. I have a little Garmin Geko for that (and backup in the hills on foot).
People bang on about marine chartplotters but I dont really see the need for these, too big and too expensive.
er whatelse, ow yer, you can get 'apps' for those fancy phones but I know nothing about them as I only own my Sonim S1 not a apple. These seem very convienient but remember they use 3G for signal not actual sats. so once your out of range your 'GPS' will go off. good for maps etc, very cheap, often free. battery life will be low and they wont be very rugged.

For laning and been off the beaten track ya can't best an asus eeepc 9" netbook with a Solidstate HDD so no moving parts and a USB GPS dongle. for the sat nav side.

Depends of use, essentially I agree with Griffdowg reference the GPS60 - only downside I think is little screen.
In my Landry and on my bike I have been very happy with my old Garmin GPS 278 - large screen, easy to navigate and can be picked up secondhand now with car kits etc. Although there is plenty of newer more fancy gear out now - I'm holding on to my GPS 278
The T4A maps works perfect on it in Africa
