Hi guys

I've got an ex-RAF 1987 2.5 diesel 90 and this morning on the way into work the exhaust decided to drop off.

It's snapped just after (towards the rear) the large oval mid box. Don't know if a gum gum bandage is gonna quite do it. Got it held up with a nice wee bit of wire for the time being.

Can anyone recommend a decent price aftermarket system/company. Quite willing to have a bash at fitting it myself, looks straightforward enough.

Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers.

Thanks in advance.

I just ordered mine from the usual suspects - in my case LR Direct, but Rimmers, Paddocks etc

Back box has lasted 3 years so far and wasn't many pennies

LRDirect are expensive for delivery of exhaust parts - paddocks were cheaper for me.

Exhaust is easy to fit - I've done it a couple of times. Worth protecting your eyes though as plenty of crap tends to fall down when you're busy with it. Mine is already corroding heavily and has been on less than a year. I'll be having a stainless one custom made at some point.

I was lucky to have a very clever brother. He built me a custom Made 2.5 inch fully stainless system. Won't need changing for awhile. I would spend the money and do it. If you know a friendly welder.

I ordered mine from Rimmers and it all turned up as Britpart. Nothing fitted correctly. I had to bend the downpipes to get them to fit without leaking. They give you a load of assembly paste in an attempt to try to seal the joints, but that stuffs just not designed to fill a sleeve joint with a 5mm gap on one side.

Think I will go stainless steel next time also. Just have to find a good one.

The old mid box has NTC4615 on it. If I'm just replacing this part should I replace the olives and bolts either side, and will it require paste/gasket?

I have heard really good things about these guys
but all depends where you are based
JP Exhausts Ltd. Macclesfield, Cheshire, SK11 7BD Tel: 01625 619916

I will be looking at getting one from them.

Famous Four are coming in with a full system at £71. That'll do me.

Cheers for the help guys, any tips on fitting it? Do I need to get some instant gasket type stuff to put on the joins?

Well, Andy at Famous Four is quoting £71 plus VAT for a whole system, so that'll do me. Stainless wouldn't look right on a RAF truck. Any advice on fitting? Do I need some instant gasket stuff for all the joints etc?

You will need new olives. I used exhaust paste as well, just to be sure of a good seal.

Next time I do it, I would replace the clamps, nuts and bolts as they were hard to get off and on. It would have made the job much easier and quicker.
