Glow plugs stay on and starter motor turns over in off position

Hello everyone my 1987 land rover 90 (19j) just past it's MOT last week and was getting ready to sell but now I have a problem with the ignition.

When the key is in the off position the glow plug light is on and the starter motor is turning the engine over.

The starter motor is not running when in position 1&2 then works fine to start the engine but the glow plugs stay on in all positions.

I have tried fitting a new ignition switch to fix the problem but still same problem.

Was meant to have a guy coming to view it on the 29th.

I'm in Hampshire if any ones will to give some hands on help.

Have just spoken to a friend and he told me he disconnected the battery while the engine was running and it cut out.
Could this have caused the problem.

I have had a form search for same but can't find one with same symptoms

The red and brown to the glow plugs had melted to the brown wire leading to the starter motor just replaced the wires and ta da all working as they should.
