Girlfriends Disco 2 Project/Crash Repair

Small update.. New abs sensor came this evening....




cleared the fault for all of 5mins and its back...




Re stripped the hub checked it all over all seemed good re-f1itted and fault still there...

Plan is to strip it again first thing tomorrow.. Done it that many times I can strip it to the sensor and have it rebuilt in 20mins .. I'll then plug the hole where it sits.. And take the hub casing back to bare metal again.. And hopefully the lower sitting of the sensor will help it pick up the hub ring.
seen a few videos online and it does work if that's the issue. and the only difference I did in fitting it first time and re fitting was I did it spanner tight first time and by hand second time so I'm thinking the spanner pulled it closer In and that's why the lights off at first.

Either way I think a new hub is on the cards with a pre fitted sensor and keep this one as a spare or something.

It's MOT retest is tomorrow so told the situation to my mechanic he said the codes may just need wiping now and that's it so he will. So that with the retest so fingers crossed it passes.

Then we can head down to billing in it.

I had the same problem with mine. Fitted brand new hubs and one of them turned out to be faulty, it wasn't the sensor. Went through three brand new sensors before replacing hub/sensor. Problem solved.

Glad its not just me. With this luck then

Removed the sensor for the third time so I could clean top of the hub where it mounts back tk bare. Metal... I plugged the hole with tissue.. And sanded by hand.

Tightened up nice and tight with a spanner... And after a fair bit of driving... Problem solved ... So if your ever doing things I would smooth the area bare to bar metal everytime. I will form now on.

So off for the mot retest it went...


And it passed

So did one more small job I wanted to do before loading the truck up for Billing Off Road Show...

my disco 1 van body had a shaped rubber matt in the back and seeing as my van body is not staying a van body... I decided to trim it to suit Hetty.





Fits perfectly and that's the boot carpet protected, and ready to be loaded up with camping gear

Yea we are really happy with that just guna work through getting the chassis cleaned repaired where needed and sealed etc oil leaks one has been sorted with a new crankshaft seal ... The others will get done as and when.. Hasn't left any oil in drive yet so they arnt bad at all

Impressive work getting from that long list of dangerous and severe fails to a pass.

So we took 'hetty' on the 4 hour drive to Billing off road show, and she didn't miss a beat. We had a great time got some new parts for her and was a cracking weekend.

Then the journey home.... Thanks to some F*****g W****r driving a small yellow van flying off a slip road almost smashing into the back of a car in the first lane slamming on and just blindly pulling out at us..... Forcing my Mrs to swerve into the outside lane and missing him by inches but sending us into the centre reservation at 65 and causing us to spin down the outside lane.... And the f***er also swerving everywhere just carried on driving....

The Disco looks like this



So the winch bumper took the main hit on the drivers side.

Span twice ripped the tyres off both passenger side wheels...

and hit the back... Tyre on the centre reservation again bending it etc.

The work begins again..

Engine is undamaged and runs perfectly still which is a bonus.

We have spare face-lift headlights which require alot of the area that is crushed behind the headlights to be removed anyway in order to fit them.

I have a 300tdi disco that getting broken as it is rotten as hell. But the shock bar is in good nick as is the front panel and headlight area etc..



So the plan is to cut off what I need from the donor discovery weld it on and rebuild her.

Only chassis damage is a slight bent front body mount... Which will be cut off and re welded....

Wheel spacer adapters so the D1 wheels and all terrains can be fitted aswell.

I also have another discovery 2 winch bumper aswell. So lots to do to get her back on the road so what this space

That's a ****ty end to a good weekend, glad everyone's OK and good to hear you have the parts to sort it all. The facelifted front end will be a bonus too I suppose.

Thanks yea we where both completely fine. Not a scratch between us. Mrs was a little stiff for a day or 2 for the brunt of main impact was her side as she was driving. Pictures don't do justice to the level of the crash to be fair. If we had been in a normal car. We would have broken bones, maybe still hospital or alot worse. I was amazed at how strong that truck is.

Face lift was alway the plan she wanted for her truck so just glad we had all the bits we do otherwise it would be a much bigger mountain to climb.

Gutted for you mate. I'm sure you'll sort it though and the main thing is you're both OK. Do you have a dashcam or get the registration number?

No unfortunately not in both counts happened so quick couldn't get the reg. We will definitely get her sorted. Just maybe not in time for the Peterborough weekend which is a bummer but not much we can do.

Onwards and upwards

Just been having a read through this, so disappointing for that to happen after all your hard work. Hopefully karma will deal with yellow van man soon....
