As previously mentioned, I've bought my Series 3 for weekend/leisure use and to teach myself some basic vehicle maintenance.

It's a credit to previous owners that, when parked on the flat, it doesn't drop ANY oil at all, remarkable! However, when parked nose down on my sloping drive it does drop a little bit. Gravity and all that I expect. The obvious solution, I hear you cry, is to park it either on the level or, I'm guessing, nose pointing up on my drive.

Where would the oil drip be coming from when nose down and is it anything I should worry about with a 27 year old truck? Forgive my ignorance but I'm trying to learn!

How much is 'a little bit', and is it coming from the front bit or the back bit?

Can you tell if it is engine or diff oil? If it is the sweetly scented EP90, it is the sure sign that your landy is craving a bit of love and attention to her rear end, and if it is from the front end and is black and 'orrible it is probably from the sump.

Is she damp and appears to be well lubricated underneath? If so, she is ready for some TLC!

It looks pure black from the front end, just behind the front axle. It's not much but non existant when parked on the flat or parked "uphill". Might it just be that the sump plug is a bit weak with the added pressure/weight of extra oil when parked downhill?

Sorry, I'm a total novice, but that's the best way I can describe it!

It looked like pure engine oil from the bottom of the sump. But it hasn't dropped a single drip and it's been parked up the drive for 2 days. Possibly a small leak from the gasket?
