Hi,

I want to get my Defender 90 resprayed and I'd like to get a professional job done.

Does anyone know of a spray shop in West Sussex, Cowfold, or within 30 miles who can do a good job. So far when I have called people they either a) do not want to do a 90 or b) seem to quote vary variable prices, as in from £2k to £5k.

I'm looking for a complete respray with the interior out and the inside done.

Thanks

Over last Christmas I thought about getting my 110 resprayed in burnt orange (a long story which I have now abandoned)

Local to me are two places to get spray work done, one is a small shed type of place who will respray a 110 for about £800 if I do all the prep work, and a big professional place, the shed guy would do it no worries, but he said he hated painting defenders as they usually look crap afterwards as by there nature they leave the factory with rippled bodywork. The professional place said they would rather not paint it full stop for the same reason, as they have put their name to it afterwards. If I wanted a semi gloss finish the professional place said they would be prepared to have a go for around £2000 in cash.
Maybe that's why you are getting silly quotes and a general lack of interest.

Crazy! You may not want this type of paint but I had two quotes from a Line-X franchise to do an 02 TD5 90. They do all the prep work and paint - including my rollcage, bumpers and a whole host of other parts for £1700 inc VAT. Didnt ask about the interior.

Not sure about the Line X stuff, seems that once you get it grimy and dirty it's a nightmare to clean off as the texture holds all the crap in.

Not much help as the paint shop im using is in cheshire
but again they have been really fussy so far about the panels
its been a pain in the arse so far and the bill is £2k

I was thinking along the same lines, which was why I asked the age. I've had a place say they are not keen on defenders. Same reasons, older ones don't look great even after painting and corrosion keeps coming through.

The professional place do work on Astons etc, a lowly 2005 fender has not real interest for them really even with no corrosion.

You'd be nuts to spend 5k painting a 25 year old defender

Have you thought of vinyl wrapping it , they sell it on ebay with microscopic holes in to make it easier to apply for DIY

You could buy enough to do a wing and see what it looks like

A thing called plasti coat has potential, used just to be available to black but now all sorts of colours are available, found a place in Royston that will do it, cheaper than wrapping.

2 months , they build houses faster than that.

Scotch pad and some filler, flat it off , fill any dents and find somebody to paint it, plenty of back street spray shops that will do a good job.

There's no way I'd spend that kind of money unless it had been rebuilt on a new Richards galv chassis and it was a keeper.

I painted my landy myself with my own compressor and it's the first thing I have ever painted was easier than I thought just loads of prep work. Cost about £400 and that's buying the compressor paint and gun.
