hi all i have just got back from plymouth having drove there and back in my 1997 300tdi i had a problem with when i was going up hill at say 57 to 60 mph i started to heat up quickly managed to get there and back without going into the red just

what could be the problem please (pump maybe or rad ?) from essex by the way

You need to check the gauge is telling the truth.
Look for any leaks, operation of the fan and condition of radiator, could also be thermostat.
If, on the face of it, everything looks OK I would start with the cheapest thing, thermostat.

I run a temp gauge on my 300 tdi with the sensor in the top bung on the thermostat housing

The D1 dash temp gauge doesn't move a mm before 106 C and at 110 C is pretty much near the red

Yes checked coolant not moved

Thanks d1 nut it seems that could be the case do I need to worry

Thank you anaconda for the advise I will change that anyway 😊

300 do like a head gasket,
But start simple, stat working? rad fins all clear? rad flushed internally? viscous fan still fitted? if so is it working? aux belt in good condition?
