I challenge anybody to prove that the LR brake pads are any better than these.

They may not be better than every other make available but they are consistent. Shortly after I bought my 110 I replaced the brake pads for the MOT with some cheap ones (cannot remember the make) because they were worn. I then failed the MOT on braking efficiency, refitted the old pads, which I had to fish out of the scrap bin, and then passed the MOT retest. Since then I am very careful when chosing brake pads, and prefer genuine if I can get them as at least i know they will work!

There maybe lots of non genuine brake pads (or any other parts) that are as good and some maybe even better but I prefer to keep my Defender as original as possible.
Many years ago I fitted non Volvo cheaper pads to my 740 petrol turbo, they cost £22, the Volvo pads were £50, they were fine until a few weeks later and I was on holiday in Scotland and coming down a long mountain pass, the brakes became hot and the cheap pads became useless and very dangerous, I drove straight to Oban Volvo dealer and bought Volvo pads and fitted them in a lay-by, I did the same mountain pass several times with Volvo pads and they were perfect, so they ended up costing me £72 a pair and could have cost me and family our lives,

Yes they may be an excellent brand but the point I am making is I want to keep my landy original and only use Landrover parts. Just my personal choice. Just wondered if there was a supplier who can undercut Landrover prices but does not look like it so far.

He is right though, if you want OEM, expect to pay double.

Col
I expect to pay more as I mentioned above in a previous reply, I just made a simple request to see if anyone knew of an alternative supplier of genuine landrover pads that was a little cheaper. Before going to my landrover dealer and paying full price for them.
Incidentally
During my own search I notice Rimmer Bro's genuine landrover battery is about £50 cheaper than dealer if anyone is looking for a genuine battery.
I replaced mine with a like for like genuine battery as my last one lasted more than 12 years and is still being used in my caravan for the motor mover.

My opinion.
I think it’s just silly to pay for OE when Ferodo pads are under half the price and just as good.
LR parts prices are extortionate. They used to be reasonable but biffed up parts prices after being taken over by Tata in 2008.

It’s not a Ferrari, it’s a Defender. It won’t increase the value, the OE pads won’t last any longer, and it won’t stop any better.
LR brake pads aren’t made by LR they’ll be made by somebody like Lockheed, Ferodo etc.
In fact Lockheed/Girling and Ferodo both supply LR.

But if you really insist, then retailers have about 20% on OE parts so you might get a tenner off if you shop around.

I couldnt be assed to type the same reply but 100% agree. Just because its OE does not mean it is good. LR have churned out some shocking things in the past.

Feel free to waste your money

Hi mate

Seen a lot of good reports with these , might give them a try on my D3, can’t be too bad, after all my lump of landy is pushing towards 3 x tons

But also seen many upgrade to the V8 brakes, can’t do it on mine as need a min 18 inch wheel, mine are 17s as I wanted a bigger sidewall on my tyres ( 235/75/17)

Thanks for all the replies and comments.
I am sure I am not the only one who likes to maintain there cars and keep them original no matter what the make.
But thanks again. Think we will close this thread.
