I thought you might all appreciate some photos of an ongoing project.
I found an early 80's Landrover 100" Prototype languishing in a field and agreed to buy it from the seller. It had stood in the field unprotected for about 25 years!
I knew what it was and felt it right and proper to return it to health.
It was a mish mash of parts, but it was all there, and together, coil sprung 100" modified chassis, 2.25 petrol engine, 4 speed auto box, (with mounts for a three speed to so maybe a test mule) prototype fibre glass defender dash pod, weird jerry can holder built into the side, trinket tray on the battery box, half roll cage with roof mounted military aerial, the remains of a plastic wolf style hood (which had saved the interior a bit) which had the ability to peel off the back leaving a truck cab in canvas. Weird rear lights were fitted, as specified by the Swiss. Defender military front with unique mesh grille (stage 1 ish) fitted to the front. It was Left Hand Drive had done a massive 11000kms so 6800 miles from new.
24/25 of these vehicles were made in a variety of forms 3 door, 5 door hard top soft top, V8, 2.25 etc. They were made for evaluation by the Swiss Military (yes there is one!) to evaluate. They tested them and then bought Pintzgauers! This is the only Auto one I have heard off. It has strange military triple sockets let into the rear cross member and CH painted on the rear, the letters for Switzerland. I think there are only four or five left left. One is with the Dunsfold collection.
So any ways I bought the truck and evaluated. Chassis dead, bulkhead dead, motor unknown.
I decided to get a new chassis made, which was done by Richards Chassis, bulkhead came from Ashtree
I will post some photos from the resto when I can work out why the site up loader says the destination files are empty, when they are not!
