Morning,

I have a bog standard 2008 Defender 90 with factory alloys and have picked up a set of second hand steel wheels with General Super All grip tyres on (7.5 16LT 110/105L) for winter/snow use - living in a rural area so might need these.

I'd like to get the rims cleaned up as the paint's shot in places, and get the tyres checked out and balanced, etc, in the process. I think these are tubed as well so old style tyres.

My choice is I think to get the tyres off and refurbish the existing rims, or get another set of steels and do a rims change at the tyre place. I like the second option as it's easier but - excuse my ignorance on this - what steel wheel size would I need? I've got 16" rims from the tyre wall data, but not sure beyond that to be honest.

Is there an option here to get a steel wheel size to carry these tyres and later on an more modern replacement size?

Any advice available? Thanks in advance.

(Oh, if anyone would be able to refurb these rims in the South West Bath/Chippenham area let me know as well).

So you saying you got wheels and they match your original wheels will they fit?
 
OK, I'll try and sum it up:

It's a bog standard Defender, no alterations to suspension or anything like that.

For this Defender I have bought some used Grabbers on steels wheels.

The steel wheels these Grabbers are on need tidying up, so the tyres are coming off.

With the rubber removed I can refurbish the steels as they are, or buy a new set and fit the rubber to them.

Sp was looking for some advice on what size steels I need for the given tyre size; might be a really simple answer, might not be.

Am I asking in the right place here?
 
Thanks for the links to Paddocks - it'll be a close thing on the price for refurb or replace as has been said.

Hint: A simple search before you asked the question would have avoided all the corrective comments from the Council of Wise & Sarky members.:D:D
 
I did a search but don't understand subtleties of wheel and tyre sizes on Landies - I didn't expect so much internet goon content, but there you go.
 
OK, let's be sensible ...

A 16" tyre will fit a 16" wheel.

Most Land Rovers have 16" wheels

Ergo, most 16" tyres will fit Land Rover wheels, so it's up to you to sort out the tread patterns and profiles to suit your needs.
