Strange? Maybe BMW did away with them after taking over since it's a diesel thing generally?

The dampers are fitted to both front and rear of petrol models but only to rear of diesels. They cannot be fitted to front of diesels, the sump is in the way.

I'm sorry but you are wrong, unless this lump of metal is not the damper

Why would anyone expect a 2.5 diesel to be as quick as a 4.6 litre petrol V8. Why would BMW fit a VM engine in their car and the TD5 did not start production until 1998.

I'm saying thats what they should of done..

140hp and 389nm of the 6 pot VM vs 134hp and 270nm M51 the VM is a straight winner. IMO

They initially were going to use a "stretched" L series diesel but it lost on the grounds of refinement.

A damper indeed but not the ones being referred to. The axle whip dampers bolt to the diffs. They are fitted front and rear on petrols but only to the rear on diesels. They cannot be fitted to the front diff on diesels because the sump is in the way.

YES.

Transfer box? It's on the side of the engine/bell housing just by the starter.

It is the transfer box damper or that is what Land rover recon, but what do they know. ;):D

LAND ROVER 0,00 0 4 IAI000050 1 ABSORBER-TRANSFER BOX VIBRATION, 2.5L 6 CYL BMW DIESEL

Not arguing with that, but it's bloody long way away from the transfer box.

Yep it is indeed. But that's what it's for apparently. Never seen one fitted they must have been on 1999 and on. There is another one with last two digits of part number 60 instead of 50, that is for the L322.
