Gearing query?

I have a 2006 TD5, how can I alter the gearing to make motorway miles less harsh???
Is it possible to marry a 6 speed box to this 'lump'?
Or can a disco box fit??
If anyone can even point me to any publications covering this topic!

disco box fits but the gearstick is in a different position even if you get it to fit its still r380 not sure it will make any difference, I think you probably need to change the transfer box for a notable difference. some body with more knowledge will hopefully correct me if I am wrong.

what size tyres are you running? as that comes into the equation

tyres size you know the black round things. not the wheels/rims:rolleyes:

Because if you change to larger than stock (outside dia) it will affect your gearing. so if you got to 265 75,16's or 285 75 16's then you 1.4 transfer would be right for highway/ if you stay stock size 235. 85 you would be better with a 1.2 transfer box

Just going by what i have read on a transmission specialist site that has a calculator for gear ratios taking in the info of tyre size, engine, transmission, and rear diff ration all into there equation.:) Low range is all the same ratio in all transfer boxes

Mine drives fine, the speedo reads about 2-3mph fast, in 5th i gain about 10mph at the same revs
