Hi everyone!

My first post here. I'm not from UK so pardon me if I the grammar is slightly wrong. ;)

Finding gears on my Discovery Tdi200 is beginning to look like fishing - I know it's somewhere there but it needs patience and luck to find it. :) Local workshops are not too keen to fix it. So I wonder how mutch sutch gearbox (used but good) could cost in UK? Does anyone has a spare one?

Thanks in advance!

theres a common problem with the discovery LT77 gearbox that causes gearchange dificulty, the gearstick has a spring to centralise it & relies on a metal tag to position it in the 3rd / 4th gear position. this tag can snap off causing 'fishing' for the correct gearo_O

as an example of the 'fix.

this plate is bolted to the gearbox at the bottom of the gearstick, if you look at yours the tag is probably broken off:rolleyes: easily replaced OR you can weld the tag back in place:cool:

Thanks for the advice Zed.! I checkted, that's not the problem. Plate is not broken. All seems well from outside..

Welcome, nice to see somebody else from a small country. A Disco 200 TDI is an excellent choice, just protect it against rust.
Don't buy a 2nd hand gearbox. All parts are ready available from shop4autoparts.net, who actually make many of the parts
This box is easy to repair, if you get the synchro rings and bearings and some other bits ( I have a list in my head )
The first time it took me almost 2 days till it was right because I made some stupid mistake with the selector.
But that is how you learn. Good luck

My R380 always had to fish for 3rd/4th, recently something went ping inside, now it moves okay and sits right in neutral. I’m told it’s a brass one of these tags ^^^ that they later changed to steel on a P38

I’m hoping it doesn’t jam in anything

Hi,
Thanks for advice! : ) As much as I would like to repair it on my own, unfourtinally it is not possible - I have no free space where to do it. I'll just take my chances with used part and get it replaced in a shop.
