Freelander gear

I drive an Automatic Freelander and last night when pulling onto the driveway had a problem with the gearbox. I could'nt put it into Drive it would only go into 1,2,3 and 4. A warning light came on that looked like a car going up a hill. The problem seemed to go away when I turned the engine off and on again.

Just wondering if this is something anyone else has heard of and if the gearbox is on the way out or something?

Could be the auto electrical barrel connectors coming apart, or wires snagged or broken. Located above the auto gearbox. There's 2 of them. Easy first check. Mine are tie wrap secure as below. Does it struggle to pull away? If so it's in 4th gear due to the fault. Does reverse gear work and have you had work done on it recently?

I had new rear diff mounting brackets fitted last week. It does go into reverse and yes its slow to pull away when its stuck in 4th gear

hi just to add mine did this and it turned out to be the clutches the srs and hill decent came on then off again so be warned
hope this helps

The car going up the hill is the Hill Descent Control light, it must be a fault for this to come on if not selected.
I know nowt about auto boxes but Teddy mentioned clutches, these must be internal components to the box.Get it checked out or this could be expensive!

Could be summat or nowt
