shims are a gasket as well as a shim,you dont need any sealant

I think I managed to sort it out. It turned out that there was about twice as much thickness of shims there as actually needed.

I'm sure the box is quiter now that the free play has been removed.

I couldn't find a number anywhere for the torque to tighten the speedo housing bolts to, so used a standard torque for a 3/8" UNC thread into aluminium. 12 Ft Lbs was the number I got from an online torque chart.
