you can lend a new sensor and test the resistance in the new one at the same temperatur as the on in your car (in ATF cooler) and se if they are the same ..

Thanks for the heads up Sarstad. I don't have any equipment to test the sensors personally. Does anyone know what the resistance should be in a working sensor? I may be able to ask a friend (if I can get hold of him) to check the resistance in the current one, so if someone knows the resistance of one that is fully functional I would be halfway there.

I know ... but I don't have one lol

Look at www.maplin.co.uk you can pick up a simple meter for less than a tenner. B&Q might also have something.

But you have almost certainly found the source of you problems, the melted fuse box. It is likely that what you can see is only a small part of the problems. Fit a new fuse box and save yourself a lot of grief. About £130 from a dealer I think:D

Thanks Datatek,

Glad the problem is most certainly the Fusebox. Looks like i'll be sourcing a new one then for now.

Edit:
Would I kill the car by driving it or will it be fine to drive for a few days while I get the fusebox. I have plans to hit blackpool tonight for the lights (and I live in Wigan) and the Range Rover was going. Will I be fine to potter in it until I get the part on Monday/Tuesday??

If you have a dodgey fuse box you risk your computers, breaking down in a dangerous place and ultimately a FIRE......
Its up to you

Good chance the fuse board id a large board folded back on itself so you cannot see all the soldered connections I recently removed mine and repaired it for me it was 4 hrs the problem was that I ha a small amount of discolouration on R7 but when I opened it up it had burned R6 R7 and the main power in connection I also inspected the other joints and over twenty were cracked /dry joints all causing some sort of arcing - I repaired mine but have ordered a new one from the stealer which is a different part no and from what I can tell the track for r& is a bit meatier also the problem with R7 in my case was caused by shake and vibration from driving too fast on rough ground the blend motor connections had come loose - you will prob need a new fuse box afraid 150 quid inc vat

Thanks guys. I decided to keep the RR at home and went to Colne today to get a replacement box. However, it hasn't fixed the problem. So the fusebox is replaced, but the error for the Gearbox Overheat still persists.

So now the Wife has made me phone the AA to get the breakdown team to assess and see if they are able to tell us anything.

Sorry about that, fuse box problems cause all manner of faults. At least changing it will insure you against other random faults.
So now you are back to a sensor fault or bad connections.

Don't apologise Datatek, it needed changing anyhow as it was fired.

But to make things even better ... would you believe that the presence of the Orange Jacket of the RAC meant that on startup the fault had gone!?

He's slapped the computer on it and given it a clean bill of health with no fault codes or anything.

So tonight I will be taking it for a spin to make sure all is well as the car seems fine now. Maybe the ECU needed time to reset or something??
