Hello,

I have a problem with my Land Rover Freelander 2.0 TD4 from 2001.
I don`t know how to open the gearbox to change the clucth disk. How can i do this operation?
Can i open the gearbox without opening the differential from the back of the motor?

Thanks

Don't think you're going to get one. If you don't know the difference between a gearbox and a clutch I'm pretty sure its a safe bet that you will only fook up your motor :)

err.. no. If you open the gearbox you can change the gears. lmao.

If you want to change the clutch, take your gaylander to a garage.

LOL Harry Hill will tell you, hmmmmm

To the OP, Get a workshop manual or your gonna fail the task.
It can be done, but the diff (IRD) has to come off first.

So where is the clutch located? how can i change the clutch, mister "i know everything" ?

Most clutches fit between the engine & gearbox & are bolted to the engines flywheel so the gearbox usually has to be removed to gain access to the clutch. My car is automatic so I'm not sure how easy a job it is on the TD4 or the exact setup. Just a couple of points though - one, get a Haynes manual, though they're not brilliant they will give you an idea - two contact Ming, what he doesn't know isn't worth knowing & three check out your clutch hydraulic system Master & Slave cylinders, pipework & brackets etc, a haynes manual should give you some tips on what to look for. Finally do a search on here, I've read a few people saying they'd bought a new clutch but it turned out to be the hydraulics. Good luck whatever you decide to do.

rob_s did you source a manual, MHM mentioned the Rave CD, Its in the common faults section, 2 sub-forums down.
From your PM, if you've only had the FL a month, are you sure its the clutch?
Where are from, there might be someone near you with knowledge of FL Clutch.

For starters, you would have to drain the gearbox oil, IRD oil, disconnect the prop shaft, remove exhaust downpipe, remove driveshafts (new driveshaft seals on refit and they are not cheap). Unbolt IRD, remove, undo bell housing bolts between gearbox and engine. Remove gearbox, heavy at around 40kg, remove old clutch, perfectly allign the new clutch plate, refit everything,.......... That should take you about a day to do, can you see where this is going?
