I know mine is a 2a box as I fitted a 2a clutch. I have always put the same gear oil in both as it lists it on the oil manufacturers website.

Hang on earlier the OP said when changing between ratios...you do know you are meant to stop completely before moving the red knob!?! You can with practice change but it is a non-synchro box so you'll most likely just knacker the gears....

As I said the vehicle was standing still with my foot on the clutch when changing between ratios. I have since been investigating further and with high revs the noise is there everytime my foot is on the clutch. I take it this is the clutch release bearing?

Looks like its a bank holiday gearbox removal!
