Gearbox Mystery!!!

Hi everyone,

Can anyone here help solve my problem with my p38 4.6 range rover...
I drove it to work fine and i reversed into the car park fine but when i put it into drive again it wouldnt move. Ive run through all the gears but i just revs free as if it was in neutral and now comes up gearbox fault. when it first happened i revved it up and it suddenly jaulted the car forwards again but now wont move an inch.
There is no noises coming from the box and it didnt make any noise when it happened just suddenly stopped.
I cant find anyone with a clue as to whats wrong with it so i am well and truelly stuck at the moment...can anyone shed light on this please.

Please please please i want my rangey back.

when did you last change yer g/box fluid? and did you change the filter aswell. assuming it an auto

i know the fluid was changed a few months back but im not sure about the filter, is this a big job?

Hi, could be looking at a flex plate failure. but you wont know with out taking the box out.

what can happen, although i doubt it has in your case is that the pump picks up crap from the bottom of the box and it clogs up the filter preventing anymore oil cirulating, no drive. after a while the crap drops off and you can drive again untill the filter clogs up again. and so the cycle repeats itself.

its easier to drop the bottom off the box and replace the filter than to remove to check for nadgered flexi plate... about an hour or so work.

Is it worth while taking it to landrover and getting them to put it on their diagnostics machine, would that tell me for deffinate what the problem is.
I got told it maybe the torque converter but would it just got like that without making any noise and no warning.

Change the filter first...If you starve G/box of just half a litre it can fart about...Dealer will charge you a minimum of around £60 to £80 for first hour....Try the filter first..
