Hi there keep getting gearbox fault on the dash on my 4.0 range rover auto.I have had this problem before but with reading all the threads realised it was the battery .Changed the battery problem sorted. The battery is less than four months old.I have checked all the earth leads they seem OK.I have also added an earth lead my self just to be sure .I have taken it to an independent land rover garage to diagnose the fault .He cleared the faults then checked the battery and the alternator with everything running (lights fan etc)then tested the voltage 13.7 with full load.According to him this is OK.On one of the posts i have read before i read you have to have 14.5 volts. He also checked all the fuses they were OK.When i took it out after he cleared the faults it went back in to 1st gear. When it went up to 2000/2500 revs and about to change in to 2nd gear gearbox fault on dash plus back in to limp home mode/3rd gear .Took it back in the guy seemed a bit stumped. He suggested changing the oil and filter if that does not work he suggested replacing the gearbox ecu .Every other post i have read seem to lead back to the battery.Has any body got any other ideas that it might be of help before i do this.Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated as i am pulling what hair i have left out.

Are you totally sure the battery is a good un?? It seems from what you have said that the problem went away once you had done that but now its back again roughly 4 months later??

What, if any was the stored fault in the ECU??

-Wills :)

Thanks for the quick response .I have changed the brand new battery with the battery from my 5 ton minibus still same fault. He did not say if the fault was stored.

Well i bit the bullet and bought another battery hopeing this would cure the gearbox fault.Still the same .Any one else got any ideas what it might be?

I had some issues on mine and found the alernator the issue, it gave loads of errors incluysing gearbox

If your only getting 13 volts, it could be a cause.
