Hi

Todays problems did the prop shaft thanks to Wammers steering me in the right direction, but a new ABS accumulator on and new door mechanism which has now fixed the central locking

Took her for a spin across the forest yesterday and after a couple of miles the dreaded EAS fault came up

all points are down and the suspension button on the dash is showing all 4 settings lit Did soapy water test on all the points in the engine bay and its not showing any major leaks.

However Air compressor is silent and didnt vibrate at all so I suspect its dead

Other strange thing is gears (prop??) is gearbox is now stiff and I am finding it difficult to get any thing except N or D or R but as on roads isnt massive

any suggestions welcome cheers Chris

EAS is in fault mode, did you not get the "max 35mph message" on the dash?
Either way the compressor will not run until you clear the fault. Could be leaking airbags, tired compressor that has overheated etc.
Needs diagnostics, I can supply the EAS diagnostic kit.

yeah I got the message to on the dash, it has been fine all week just yesterday rear two went up but front wheel stayed down then with all four went to lowest position
Sounds like a front airbag may have failed, the compressor will not run until the fault is cleared with diagnostics.

it feels like an issue with the settings being to tight or if they are on the P38 a selector issue. I dont know much about the gearbox on these but mines only done 98k so I would be amazed if anythings worn

just but its very stiff for the road settings before my prop went and i replaced it it was fine

i can get off road fine and reverse, drive and neutral but not 1,2,3,4 or park

Did you play with the switch on the side of the gearbox or the cable that goes to it?

Ahh I may have knocked it I didnt know what exactly it is ?? But I remember trying to align the prop shaft and knocking into the gearbox as this was a 1st attempt

You need to download RAVE and read up on it, quite a job to set properly if you have disturbed it or bent anything. Known as the XYZ switch. Cable adjustment is critical.

I have got rave upstairs on the PC in my cave

My cars off road at the moment because of the issues with the EAS at the moment. My original prop did smash off in the end but very close to home but as far as I can see just took out the o2 sensor which was lucky.

I may get my mechanic to tidy up what needs doing as he loves that car and has some knowledge on p38 and is old school honest

Would it be safe to drive the 15 miles to it the engine is running fine

If it goes into drive and changes gear normally 15 miles should be ok. Get your man to look at it, you must have damaged something under there.

Don't try the forest! 1 mile on the bump-stops is a pain. The slightest bump and the whole of the car jumps in the air. If you have any loose filling it'll find them!

I heard a story of 1 guy who drove to the local specialist round here and they had to call an ambulance when he got there because his back had gone out.
