Gear shift issue?

Evening Gents,

My Defender 90 has a crunching/clunking felt in the gear stick when shifting into gear - more noticeably shifting into 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

She’s a 2010 with 70k on the clock. Recent work completed includes new clutch, transfer box, drive shaft, flanges, bushes.

Does this sound familiar / an issue?

It’s been doing it before all the new work was completed...

Was thinking maybe synchroniser sleeve, bearings??

Sounds like it's had a hard life! Presumably, having had all that work done, the oil in the gearbox has been checked/replaced?
 
Thanks AL203, yes ex utility so hard life.
Had bodywork and interior done so she’s looking great. Last niggle is this gearstick crunch.

There's another forum called Difflock. They sell their own gear box oil. Can't remember if it's Evo1 or Evo 2 for the main box. It's expensive, but they claim it lasts twice as long as other oils. I've used it before and it's transformational. Converts the gearbox in to a modern, comfortable unit. Many will come on and slate me for this, but this is based on personal experiences so they can eff orft :)
It won't fix a knackered gearbox, but might help a worn one for a while.

It’s not their own oil, they are neither oil refiners or blenders it’s just rebranded Amsoil synthetic oil and then double the price.

You might like to check the condition of the gear selector tower, where the gate/return springs live under the rubber bait or/insulation.

Previous hamfisted owner of my 110 had habit of driving with hand resting on gearknob, meaning over time it wore the aluminium housing so badly it didn’t track correctly across the gate (it was fighting the return springs)

5min job to check, cheap to repair/adjust.

Just another POV from recent experience o_O
