Hi all. As you probably gathered my name is Gary and I have recently bought a TD5. I live in the Leighton Buzzard area.

With 2 daughters riding horses I needed a tow car so three years ago I bought a Discovery 1 (TDI 300). It served me well but as it was rusty and damp I decided to upgrade to a TD5. The TD5 is a much better vehicle to drive but it appears I bought a lemon.

The vehicle would not start when hot but a new battery seems to have cured this. Then it lost its coolant fluid, traced to a loose heater pipe. The first long trip I did it filled its sump with diesel.

Not a happy car.

Hi Ratty. I bought it from a dealer that claims I bought it "under priced and as seen". He has however agreed to look at it (but didnt say when).

general section crock of **** stickey at top of page- dealer trying to get out of it
 
cracked head ask for a refund as depending how much diesel is in oil it will do bottom end no good
 
That is a worry but I have spent a lot of money adding 6th and 7th seats and other bits before noticing the problem. Maybe a second hand complete engine is the solution.

Maybe you should read the link I suggested
 
Update:

The dealer's mechanic insisted the problem was just a leaky injector seal. However, after replacing the injector seals the problem persists and they agree the head is cracked. They have now agreed to replace the engine with another second hand engine of similar milage.

At least the dealer is now taking responsibility and have even offered me a loaner car while they replace the engine in mine.

Well they ve at least offered the engine replacement, might be an idea to get a receipt for the works though even though its free.

I recently got a 03 td5 with 60.000 miles full l/r history and i knew the car,he had it new
so thought i had dropped on,so i was the second owner///
Got it home n washed it,brakes seemed low/disc/pads allround Knackerd, puddle on my drive coolant dripping,fuel regulator? L/R SERVICE 20/4/12 JOKE
 
I finally have my car back with another 2nd hand engine fitted. It runs well with no stange noises but they didnt get any paperwork with the engine. Is there a requirement to notify the DVLA after a engine change?
