The mechanic looking at my freelander v6 which has only done 65000 Miles is telling me there is piston slap in the engine and the liners are moving around and the engine is burning oil ???? As I sent in on to Have a coolant leak looked at. However there is no white smoke or blue smoke coming out of the exhaust then engine runs as smooth as silk and plenty of power ??? Could this be possible.

i doubt it has any piston slap, its rare on engines nowadays, its possible liner height is below whats needed, id go and see and take someone with an idea if needed too

You need to take it to someone who actually knows what he's talking about and isn't just looking for work. Piston slap is very unlikely, even at 250K miles. I doubt it's burning oil as that doesn't happen unless stellar mileage is done and there's no smoke. The liners could be low, but it would be blowing coolant out the header tank if that were the case.
The bloke is a numpty or a crook looking to empty your wallet.

Retrieve the car and take it somewhere else. Coolant leak is the problem, not anything else that you're aware of ;)

Answer to all your questions I habe not had to put oil in the engine there is no blue smoke no white smoke. No coolant spewing out of the coolant tank. The engine never goes above 109 degrees and the fans kick in there and cools down to 98 a 100 deg engine oil is black. Engine runs smooth no misfires no rattles it drives like anew car. Only slight coolant low is the real issue. I have found traces of coolant in the throttle body that’s it

my friend got ripped off a bit like you it was the 1800 freelander and head gasket had gone he took it to a garage and independent LR dealer and they called him back later and said well you engine has had it the liners have all dropped and that is BUT if you want to sell the car we will buy it ( I was away at the time) so not knowing anything about engines at best he knew where to put the oil so he sold them the car at a greatly reduce rate, two weeks later I saw it for sale on the front of there garage and I asked about it they said it has just had the head gasket done , so I phoned my friend and he went mad in fact he reported them for fraud , it did not get him any where but a few months down the line and they sold the business to somebody else , so be very very careful what garages tell you.

I'd keep topping up the coolant and using it. Then sort out a problem, should one arise. My mother in law's V6 (was mine) does use a bit of coolant with no sign of a leak. It's been like it for 5 years and still not amounted to anything other than a fortnightly top up of coolant. It does get small quantities of water in the throttle body, but I've never identified where it comes from.

Thank you I’ll get it back from the garage on Monday

Take it to a Mg rover specialist instead, plentypabout and usually arnt asamuxhas as land rover dealers and will do kv6 regularly.

Only leak in the coolant system found was the rear inlet manifold gasket so fingers crossed it’s sorted now phew my own fault I changed my thermostat and thought the gaskets were ok however I did purchase new ones just In case
