I have 130,000 miles on it (transmission fully overhauled at 80,000), time for a filter and fluid change

Give over, all garages charge a mark up on parts, it is part of their business model.

Theyd be stupid not to...using their money to buy parts for someone else...only time I heard of it being done was in edinburgh
a few good few years ago you had to buy your own parts so he didn't have to register for VAT.

Most auto gearboxes only need a partial change. The fluid contains cleaners. It's not always wise to do a full change as you put more new fluid in, and therefore more cleaners. What does the service guide suggest? Forced cleaning a gearbox is more of a merkin thing. We tend not to do it in the UK.

So if I want to change 50% (12 litres of fluid in the system) of the fluid is it better to drains say 2 litres, fill, run, drain 2 litres, fill run, drain, drain 2 litres, fill run change filter and refill ? ( this will obviously not change 50% due to dilution) I suppose I'm asking where in the sequence is best to change the filter
nothing in my owners manual or Rave associated with this

If yer ask in the range rover section yer'll get model specific info on what how when ter change the gearbox oil. Not many RR owners venture outside of the RR section.

No. Drain whatever comes out. Remove the pan, replace the filter, re-fit the pan, then put back the same amount of fluid that came out. ;)
