In the end I decided on chassis-clean, T-wash, etch primer and Frosts Extreme Satin Chassis Black.
Whole underside will then be Waxoyled as per normal.[/QUOTE]
I spoke with a well know paint supplier and their advice was to not paint it till it has naturally weathered... this was based on advice from chassis manufacturer, on the basis that etch priming it, actually damages the galvanising and thus potentially takes years of the protection given by the galvanising, meaning you need to keep the paint in good condition.
With that in mind, I thinking to let it weather naturally then give the inner rails a good coating of wax oil and decide whether to paint it or just wax oil it yearly.
As we know the original chassis weren't great but lasted 20 years - new chassis is thicker steel (25% more) so theoretically should last 25% longer - Galvanised tip to toe and inside - originals never saw this and most major rot it inside out, and combined with yearly maintenance with under seal, it might even outlast me!
