I've got a manky old D2 td5 with 190k miles. I use it for work towing and have removed the headlining and carpet to make it easy to clean , (I get muddy and wet often at this time of year) also I think it leaks. That is neither here nor there, I have noticed the chassis has a hole above where the rear bump stops should be (they are missing). Also the rear of the chassis has been welded but seams a bit rough and may have rotted again. The body is not too bad but the ns passenger floor needs a plate welded in. My question is , should I go for a galv chassis as I do kind of like this car as a work van. Or should I scrap it and look for one without rust? Do they exist? Any words of wisdom?

If you have a good one and it's worth the hassle, keep it. Take some good pics, the rear half of the chassis, top of sides, is prone to rusting thru. Get it checked proper like.

Hi Russell, you can get either a quarter chassis or a half chassis for the D2 depending on how bad your chassis is.
Also change your profile to show where you are properly and someone on here could possibly recommend a nearby chassis repairer.

I would find a better one, as once yours is in bits the list of other repairs will grow and grow.

+1 ^^^
Bloke near me who has just done some welding on mine suggested a new 1/4 chassis for £700 plus vat, supplied and welded in.

Edit: should have said, not galvanised.

Yes, a galv chassis new fitted is £4k plus with all your sundries. Unless you are attached to it, get a third or quarter chassis fitted at the rear. A new galv chassis is probably reserved for those D2s with pristine bodywork and no rust issues in the body. A lot do go on the body as well above the screen, at scuttle and in sills. At 190k you would have to bonkers to put a galv chassis on it! Just repair the current chassis if you like this one.
