Future Land Rover design?

Personally I think the new defender should be a Forward Control with a variety of different bodies for the back, from cherry picker to 12 seat safari.

make the front tip like a lorry so we can get access to everything easily.

So here we are, one year from the end of Defender production. Land Rover have no idea what the replacement will be like, they have nothing in the pipeline and they're asking students for ideas

Far better to ask the existing customer and secondhand owner base what they'd like to see. Nowt wrong with students getting in on the process though!

You could try something with semi monocoque front end for crash worthiness & pedestrian friendly , but a ladder type chassis , to enable a multibody modular type build option from scuttle back , with a decent size diesel so its got some grunt . JMHO

Small update, a designer from LR has come to the uni to give advice on where he wants the project to be headed, and to clarify exactly what we should be designing, as we were somewhat confused prior to his appearance.

He made it clear LR is NOT about making utilitarian, agricultural or cheap vehicles anymore. 'Premium' was greatly emphasized, if its not premium its not LR.

We all got one-to-one tutorials with him, to help point us in the right direction, and i explained that id been working on a small defender like car, very back to basics, removable doors etc, inspired by the old Series models. Definitily not premium, I was expecting to have to start from scratch, but he was very interested in the design, and said if i wanted i could work on that, as long as i was try make it more 'premium'.

Not entirely sure what the deal is when it comes to showing the design, but i see no problem with showing some initial ideas, which will almost definitely not be used.

if the defender does get the boot which i know is happening, then in the near future i hope tata have a rethink and produce a new defender along the lines of the one we have now.:(

LRO need to take a leaf out of Triumphs book.... They're doing it the wrong way round, triumph moved some production to India and focused on the British market then expanded globally, however Land Rover are doing the opposite, they're building in the uk but focusing sales to the east...... They couldn't be further away from their roots!!

Garyjpaterson stick to your ideas, your on the right track and best placed to mix the two what the blind exec believes he needs and what should be done !!
