Hi,

Have not been on the forums for a few months. But thought it might be a bit of fun to see how long people took to restore their Land Rovers ?
Me…7yrs
I started mine in late 2017 after buying a rather sorry looking 72 Series SWB petrol. Finally finished last week (July 24).
Why did it take so long?
Work commitments, family commitments, vehicle into storage for 18months while new house was being built (we rented a temp flat so no garage) and so on. Also I tended to just take my time with jobs.
Just want want to get an MoT for peace of mind in case I missed anything and start putting on some miles.

A few pics for you all.
Hope you like them.
Thanks

Must have an understanding wife or you sent her away for a few days 😀

Does look very nice and worth the time put in, well done and time to enjoy now when the summer comes

Depends what you class as a finish point. My series took me about 5 years to be where is stands now (galv chassis and bulkhead, light engine overhaul, bodywork done) but it is still leaking oil fomr the gearbox and rear main, and in using is as a daily while the 110 gearbox is refurbished the wipers have decided to stop working and the canvas now has a few holes in. Which ties nicely into the 110.
I bought it when I was 18, it probably took be about 8 years to "finish" it, then had an engine fire and rebuild again with new wiring looms and galv bulkhead (well documented on the thread on here) and is once again "finished" but currently is sat on the drive with no gearbox as it is off for its third rebuild. But the 110 is a daily driver doing about 30k a year. I am also in the process of rebuilding a station wagon rear body to swap onto it instead of my hard top as the small baby means it needs to be more family friendly so another "re-build" is due soon.

To know how long a restoration/rebuild takes depends on what you class as finished. the whole point of these vehicles is they can be fully usable and looking smart but still not in their final form depending on how circumstance change.
