Morning all,
Girlfriends parents just got a lovely 300tdi Disco, I'm helping them find a dog guard for it, only problem is they have a couple of dogs, one of which is a Labrador/Bin who eats anything.....I mean anything. There are mesh and bar dog guards available but they only fit above the seat, not normally a problem....but this dog will and has eaten seat belts, in seconds, which are exposed with the dog guards I've found.

So in short, anyone know of any full height dog guards for Disco 1's? I've seen them for Freelander 1's, Disco 2/3...etc.

I'll keep looking but don't think I'm going to find one :(

Seat backs are exposed but seatbelts aren't But if it is that much of a problem I'm sure a metal Mesh supplier will be able to make a lower guard to cover the seat backs.

ah right cheers mate, they rang me yesterday and said that they all left the seat belts exposed, I'll have a chat with them, if I had the time I'd make them one but I think they sort of want it now.

Cheers again Red

This is fitted to my 300tdi.

only a tiny bit exposed. and you could prob cover that bit easy enough..

have you thought of putting the dog in a cage ?,I have a disco 2 and a very large lab his cage fits behind the 2nd row of seats , although it takes up all the rear of the car he is not thrown around. Dog loves the cage, when we return home after an outing he will lie in the cage with door open for an hour or so quite happy. Pets at home sell large cages about 80£. Another option to a dog guard.

Cheers guys,
if it were the one dog I think it would go in a cage in the back, I know they have a massive cage that would fit nicely, but they have two dogs, and even though the boot isn't much larger than the cage it makes a big difference for two dogs.

Red, thanks for the pic, makes so much more sense seeing it fitted rather that product pics on the net that don't show it fitted. I think we might just weld a couple of panels over where the belts are exposed, its a really neat dog guard though, like it.

Had a few dog guards , that one like Reds is better than the one that fits in the loadspace rollerblind brackets - if Reds is the same as mine its bolted in with rivnuts . I also have a big weldmesh cage that was made to fit in the back of a volvo 240 estate that I use more these days . It has a removable centre divide and two doors , each hinged on the outer edge , so that you can use it as one large cage or two seperate ones . Fits nicely into a D1 . It was custom made for a friend with mastiffs years ago and its built tiger tank stylee - has put up with all that my labs and st bernards can dish out .

It would be a straightforward build but not cheap to make , if you are interested I will try and get a piccie for you......but I reckon what you have been told and come up with yourself will do the job - loadliner and some weld extensions . Of course the loadliner has the added benefit of containing liquids .....

Have a look at the BARJO ENGINEERING site. Theyy supply dog guards and cages to suit different vehicles. Even if only for a guide. I Have the LR dogguard fitted with rivnuts and i also fitted a rear tailgate guard which has a centre door and allows the rear car door to be opened when parked on a hot day. Two Big German Shepherds travelled all over with us and no problems . The tail gate guard is also fitted with a water bowl for convenience.

cheers
