Full break-pipe replacement costs?

At MOT, it was suggested the corroding break pipes will fail next MOT.

Anyone suggest fair price for replacement?

I am in Oldham/Rochdale area and would appreciate knowing any competent fair traders - Kwik-Fit seem out to rob me blind
 
You should find that only the most exposed areas of pipes are affected. I normally rub these down with medium paper until they show clean metal. I then coat these cleaned areas with two coats of Black Waxoyl. The MOT in NI is very tight and this is accepted by them and lasts well with minimal touch up each year. Cheap and effective.
Of course if you find corrosion that won't clean you can get those specific pipes replaced.
 
Hi, just had exactly the same happen to me ie passed its MOT but told that most of the brake pipes will need changing.......on ebay you can buy the coil of pipe/tools etc for around £25+ BUT i also found a company on ebay that if you tell them the length of said pipes needed they make them up for you which to me eliminates the added worry if you have made the flanges correctly:cool:

So what i am going to do is measure with a length of string the front pipes & order them then fit them......once i am confident enough (& hopefully when the weather is warmer) i will replace the longer front/back ones....

I think overall it should cost around £50-£60....

Most pipes will be ok. It's normally only those in exposed locations that rust. The short pipes on the rear cylinders are a classic fail point but very easy to change. They are only 4 or 5 inches long so a good place to start ;)
 
I bought a roll of brake pipe think it was 10m cost £14.00 the ends are about 10p each..

And the tool was £12.00

First pipe ya make takes a good few mins but the next one is a lot easier and quicker..
 
Always make my own. An essential piece of kit is a mini hand bender which gives superb sharp bends without kinking...looks the dogs bollix !!
When once you have replaced them with copper or cupro nickel, you can forget all about brake pipe corrosion problems. As already posted, it's the ones under the car that tend to suffer most-very rare to see corrosion under the bonnet.
***Remember to put the nut on the tube before you flare it !!!!!
